Texas Ban on Gay Marriage Unconstitutional

Here is the story regarding a monumental ruling by Dallas Judge Tena Callahan:

Attorney General Greg Abbott will fight the ruling tooth and nail, but at least this is a start. It's a cruel irony that the dust was kicked up because two men wanted a divorce.

  1. Unfortunately, I doubt that it's going to be very monumental. The same thing happened in a gay divorce suit a couple years ago down in Beaumont - you can google it up. But as I remember the state Attorney General somehow contrived to invalidate the ruling because it violates the Texas Constitution, which does not recognize any same-sex marriage.

I'm afraid it will be 20, maybe 30 years before there's any recognition here in TX. And even when the laws get changed, the place will still be full of haters and bigots - just as the civil rights laws didn't make prejudice against blacks disappear.

    Call me a hopeful pessimist.
